Kevin Davis holds the rank of Nidan (2nd Degree) Black belt in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu under Hanshi Clarence P. Murray. Kevin Davis has been studying martial arts for over 30 years. He began training in 1978 at the Jhoon Rhee Institute of Tae Kwon Do in Wheaton Maryland under World Champion Dan Magnus. He obtained a yellow belt and the basic fundamentals of the art. In early 1986, he started training with Sensei Robert Lee Davis, a student of Hanshi Clarence P. Murray and obtained his 1st degree Black belt. Kevin Davis was a natural at kumite and wanted to spar at a higher level. He competed in local tournaments in point sparring but Kevin got disqualified a lot due to excessive contact. He wanted to feel the contact and true effects of his karate training. Although Kevin Davis placed 4th in sparring at the Ocean City International Karate Tournament in the mid 1990’s, He wanted more of a challenge. Kevin Davis travel to South Carolina and found Danyale Richardson, a 2nd Degree Black belt trained in Okinawan Kempo, whose fighters included some of the best full contact Karate individuals like Dennis (Night Train) Lane. Kevin Davis spent 2 years of intense training under the coaching of Sensei Danyale Richardson which included body conditioning, maki training, grappling, leg and arm conditioning, advance bunkai and fundamental of Okinawan Karate-do. The training was supplemented with boxing from Fabian Garcia, a Maryland Lt Heavy weight champion and Gary Garber another well-known boxing coach in Maryland. Kevin Davis became very well-known on the Full Contact/Kick Boxing Circuit in the early 1990’s.
Kevin Davis met Sensei Murray at Century Martial Arts on several occasions when purchasing equipment. Sensei Murray introduced himself to Kevin Davis because he recognized him from being a student of Robert Lee Davis. Kevin Davis told his wife of the occasional meetings and she took it upon herself to invite Sensei Murray to Kevin Davis 25th birthday party and to his surprise, Sensei Murray showed up. A great friendship occurred after having an extensive conversation. A demonstration of Kata and Bunkai pertaining to street application was administered by Sensei Murray. At that point, Kevin Davis decided to start training in Okinawan Karate and Kobudo under Hanshi Clarence P. Murray.
Sensei Davis has supplemented his training and attended seminars from the following Okinawan Karate Master Instructors:
